Family Literacy Through Technology [FLTT]                            ASPIRE Expanded Learning Program

will be assigned, providing academic support / activities to the Instructional Aides ensuring program alignment with local elementary schools. The (3) primary components of the ASPIRE Expanded Learning Program are:

  • Homework Assistance
  • Academic Enrichment (STEM, Performing Arts, Foreign Language, etc.)
  • Structured Recreational Activities (Soccer, Football, Basketball, etc.)

The expanded learning component promotes the following practices:

  • Scholars are given homework assistance by a trained Instructional Aide within a classroom setting where individualized attention is provided (1:15 student / teacher ratio)
  • The computerized reading program promotes reading while assisting scholars in becoming more familiarized and comfortable on the computer. The reading program is self paced, meeting each scholar at their individual academic need
  • The learning environment reflects the culture and language of the scholars

The classroom provides a language rich environment for children. Books and other print material are readily accessible to young learners. Assessment of the scholars is embedded in instruction, and includes observations by staff and parents, the creation and management of portfolios, and documentation of progress. As educational partners, in an effort to support program alignment, day school educators work closely with program staff to ensure that activities are relevant to children's interests, knowledge, and experiences.
